Shareware is a marketing method. It’s based on the principle of "try before you buy".
Companies such as Microsoft, Symantec, WinZIP, Ulead and countless others are offering free trial versions of the software. They may choose to call it a demo, trial version, free trial, free download or any other term they wish. But if the user can try before they buy, this is Shareware.

In other words if there is an evaluation version that you can download then MS Word is being marketed as shareware.

Commercial, definitely. You need to purchase the software before you are allowed to use it past the trial period, and each additional PC you install it on requires a new license agreement with MS. If you are looking for a free version, go to http://www.openoffice.org, and download a copy of OpenOffice, it’s open source, distributed under the same license as Linux, free to use and download, and it is completely compatible with the MS Office applications, even being able to save to the same format

MS Word and Photoshop are are commercial software–you are expected to pay a license to use them.
They are NOT shareware. They are trialware.
Trialware can be thought of as a type of shareware, but they are different.
You can download a trial version of Word and Photoshop. They give you 30 days to try it out. And if you want to keep using it, you have to buy it, or it will stop working.
That’s trialware.
Shareware comes from the spirit of wanting to share the program to others. It’s given out freely so people can try it out. And if you like it, you are expected to register and often pay for it too. This is more like an honor system because many software will allow you to keep using it past the "trial" period even if you don’t register. It’s like you want to reward the programmers for developing a good software.
