Nice little game.

Hocus Pocus is a 1994 side-scrolling platform video game developed by Moonlite Software and published by Apogee Software for MS-DOS. It is a 256 color VGA game featuring 360 degree scrolling and parallaxing backgrounds. A part of this title is distributed under the shareware license.

In the game, the player controls Hocus, a young wizard apprentice, sent on a quest by Terexin, leader of the Council of Wizards to prove his worthiness to join this council. To do this, Hocus has to beat 36 levels spread over 4 episodes, filled with over 30 different kinds of monsters, includings imps, ghosts, and dragons, and a boss at the end of each episode.

Despite being released around the same time as the film of the same name; it is not a spinoff nor has any relation to it.

Tyrian is an arcade-style vertical scrolling game developed by Eclipse Productions and published by Epic MegaGames in 1995. This game originally came with four episodes. In 1999, Tyrian was re-released as Tyrian 2000, which includes a fifth episode and additional ships.

This game has been released as freeware in 2004. In 2007, the original Pascal source code was licensed to a small group of people, who rewrite it in C as an open source project called OpenTyrian.

Tyrian is an arcade-style vertical scrolling shooter developed by Eclipse Productions and published by Epic MegaGames in 1995. It was a departure from the prevalent “serious” style of shooters, due to the cartoon-like artwork and the abundance of silly (or at least strange) dialogue and content.

The game was officially released as freeware in 2004, and the graphics have been made available under an open license in April 2007.

Like many games released by Epic Megagames, Brix, a puzzle game of matching blocks, features a rich soundtrack of module based music. This game can be pretty addictive but at the same time, it is very simple. I used to play this game a fair bit when I was a kid and it’s still fun today!

A review by defunct (RIP) Cd only gaming magazine IE (Interactive Entertainment). One Must Fall was for its time, the best PC fighting game available. Back then, Epic Games was described as “a little Shareware developer called Epic Megagames”. This is one of the many steps the company took to get to things like Gears of War. A definite blast from the past.

Vinyl was originally states to be the sequel to Jill of the Jungle, in fact, both games play very similarly. Appearantly Epic was not happy with the quality of the game so it was changed slightly and published by a different company instead. Epic published Jazz Jackrabbit over this. Not that Vinyl is a bad game, but it wasn’t quite up to the standards of the year.
