Shadow Warrior

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Since it’s been 3 years since I joined YouTube today, I uploaded another video of Shadow Warrior, a first-person shooter done by 3D Realms in 1997. It uses Ken Silverman’s Build engine. In this game, you take the role of Lo Wang, a master ninja assassin. There were three expansion packs in development, but they were dropped because of disappointing sales compared to Duke Nukem 3D. The unreleased “Wanton Destruction” expansion pack has been published for free in 2005.

The History of Ken Silverman’s Build Engine

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

As the title suggests, this is a video about the history of Ken Silverman’s Build Engine. It’s the game engine that was used in first-person shooters like Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior and Redneck Rampage.

The Arrivals pt 17 (War on Terror)

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Description;

The Arrivals

Put an end to the dividing lies, and let the truth be known!

This Series Explores the Revelations in World Religions Regarding the Arrivals of the Antichrist Dajjal, Imam Al-Mahdi, and The Second Coming of The Christ.

A Work Inspired by Hashemsfilms and of Course the Words of the Noble Qoran, The Holy Bible, and The Torah, The Arrivals is a Joint Production by truthseekers Noreagaaa and Achernahr.

All rip from youtube HQ, exept for video #30, #36, #43, which were not on noreagaaa’s list anymore. I had to take them from another torrent already on the web with lower rip quality. A friend sent me a link for them on rapedshare, but they where the same low flv source file transcoded in mp4.

Notes;

This torrent has episode #51, which wasn’t released when I did the first torrent [The Arrivals (The Series flv)]

Avi transcoded in xvid (720×480) video codec, and mp3 audio (44100bits sampling), all done with avidemux (free shareware, very useful for me, google the name for its sourceforge link)

Peace
Ghis

How to Change the Text on the “Start” button[HQ]

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Resource Hacker Page:
http://angusj.com/resourcehacker/

————————–
Note: A number of users have written to say that when the text on the Start Button is changed, the Search function from the Start Button (right click) context menu ceases to function. That’s true, it does, and if I ever used that particular function I’d have been aware of the problem. I don’t use it, so I wasn’t aware, but now you’ve been warned. As far as I know there are no other caveats associated with the modification.
————————–
What is Resource HackerTM?
Resource HackerTM is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executables and resource files (*.res). It incorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on Win95, Win98, WinME, WinNT, Win2000 and WinXP operating systems.

Viewing Resources: Cursor, Icon, Bitmap, GIF, AVI, and JPG resource images can be viewed. WAV and MIDI audio resources can be played. Menus, Dialogs, MessageTables, StringTables, Accelerators, Delphi Forms, and VersionInfo resources can be viewed as decompiled resource scripts. Menus and Dialogs can also be viewed as they would appear in a running application.

Saving Resources: Resources can be saved as image files (*.ico, *.bmp etc), as script files (*.rc), as binary resource files (*.res), or as untyped binary files (*.bin).

Modifying Resources: Resources can be modified by replacing the resource with a resource located in another file (*.ico, *.bmp, *.res etc) or by using the internal resource script compiler (for menus, dialogs etc). Dialog controls can also be visually moved and/or resized by clicking and dragging the respective dialog controls prior to recompiling with the internal compiler.

Adding Resources: Resources can be added to an application by copying them from external resource files (*.res).

Deleting Resources: Most compilers add resources into applications which are never used by the application. Removing unused resources can reduce an application’s size.

Licence to Use – Terms and Conditions:
This Resource HackerTM software is released as freeware provided that you agree to the following terms and conditions: 1. This software is not to be distributed via any website domain or any other media without the prior written approval of the copyright owner.
2. This software is not to be used in any way to illegally modify software.

DISCLAIMER: A user of this Resource HackerTM software acknowledges that he or she is receiving this software on an “as is” basis and the user is not relying on the accuracy or functionality of the software for any purpose. The user further acknowledges that any use of this software will be at the user’s own risk and the copyright owner accepts no responsibility whatsoever arising from the use or application of the software.
The above licence terms constitute “copyright management information” within the meaning of Section 1202 of Title 17 of the United States Code and must not be altered or removed from the licensed works. Their alteration or removal from the licensed works, and the distribution of licensed works without all the above licence terms in an unaltered way, may contravene Section 1202 and give rise civil and/or criminal consequences.
—————————–

Limitation:
Resource HackerTM will not read 16bit (Windows 3.1) executables.
Status:
I have no intention of supporting these executables – they are a dying breed.
The shareware resource editor eXeScope I believe does handle 16bit files.

Limitation:
Resource HackerTM is currently compiled with Delphi 3.02. When decompiling and recompiling Borland’s Delphi forms in applications compiled with later version of Delphi, there may be errors in the recompiled forms if frames have been used to create the form. This error is due to the inline DFM keyword not being recognized. While decompiling, the inline keyword will be replaced by object and, if manually corrected before recompiling, inline will be rejected by the internal compiler.
Status:
I’m not rushing to make all the changes that are necessary to recompile Resource HackerTM with the latest version of Delphi.

Limitation:
To reduce the size of application files, some applications are “packed” or “compressed” using an EXE compressor once they have been compiled. This has a side-effect of making it more difficult to view and modify resources. When a “compressed” executable is viewed with Resource HackerTM, only resource types and names will be visible but not the actual resources.
Status:
This is not viewed as a bug. The application developer may well have viewed this as beneficial feature so no “fix” is planned.

Viliv x70 running Windows 7

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Viliv x70 3G 32gb SSD version running Windows 7 Home Premium RTM. Firefox mods are a knock-off of Glasser mod (Glasser doesn’t work with Firefox3.0) and Grab and Drag to browse web like on an iPhone (Requires Firefox 3.0 not 3.5). On-Screen keyboard is a shareware program with only one popup when it first starts. It is available from http://www.comfort-software.com (I am using the UMPC layout…as this is a UMPC). Most things work fine, have not tested camera/mic or 3G.

Rip DVDs with Handbrake (Mac)

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Ever wished you could put those Dvds onto your iPod, or onto your computer’s hard drive for the plane trip? Unfortunately, most of the solutions available are useless shareware…

Ironically, there’s a free program called handbrake that does a better job than the shareware and since it’s a free program, it’s FREE!

You can get handbrake at:

http://handbrake.fr

You may also want to investigate MacTheRipper:

Video Editing on Linux 1 of 3 (Crop & Rotate)

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

http://thenerdshow.com free software reviews Fedora 10, avidemux2_gtk, ffmpeg, gtk-recordMyDesktop, audacity.

Sorry about the audio quality. Video was too long so I tried compressing the audio with mp3 which sounded ok until youtube re-converted it into whatever format they’re using and it generated hiccups. Next time I’ll use PCM format during the processing steps.

I’ve been fixing computers in people’s homes and businesses since 1986. In 2003, I started supporting Linux. I’m pretty good with computers in general but I never claimed to be great at video editing. I only wanted to show that it’s possible to do some basic video editing on Linux, not to impress anyone with my amazing skills. Linux has a wide variety of software available. Most of it is free, but Linux itself is more than just free. Linux = freedom. If you have any doubts, read the GPL and then compare it with the EULA for your existing OS. Software licensing is difficult to get your mind around at first, but if you want to live your life guilt-free, you may derive some benefit from being able to use or contribute to free software, rather than stealing, I mean file sharing, using warez, and running shareware beyond its expiration date while you save up money to buy that paid software you’ve always wanted.

Guilt-free creativity since 2003!

This video contains parts or visuals of free software programs. You may use it freely according to its particular license:

Fedora software is available under the terms of the Apache License. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_License)

Avidemux is licensed under the GPL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License). Some binaries are distributed as freeware.

Avidemux-gtk and Fedora’s Gnome desktop environment uses GTK+ widgets licensed under the LGPL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Lesser_General_Public_License)

FFmpeg (http://ffmpeg.org) is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) version 2.1 or later. Parts of it may be covered under the GPL and that applies to the whole project if those parts are used. (http://ffmpeg.org/legal.html)
