In this tut, I show you a free Java program for your mobile phone called Semacode which allows you to use your phone’s camera to read Data Matrix barcodes and decode them to see what information is contained in it. Here’s a direct link to the download:

Your phone must be Java compatible and must have a camera in order for this to work

To prove this is no fluke, go to http://invx.com/code/ when you have installed it to your phone and generate your own code to scan. It’s pretty clever this stuff (scan the second code – QR codes don’t work, like the one I showed you on the Pepsi bottle.)

If you want to be able to read QR codes AND Data Matrix semacodes combined, get Kaywa Reader instead

Eyeguard is a very obscure, very strange DOS password security program (which means it’s largely innefectual in the era anybody could walk up with a boot disk). The shareware version only had the two messages, Eyeguard is on duty and Eyeguard is watching you, but the registered version supposedly had different avatars and you could customize whatever messaged you wished it to say. The reason for the horrible audio quality also is because it didn’t even use a sound card. It put the synthesized voices straight through the old PC speaker!
